oo progress! there are several (million) changes i'm going to be making to these before modelling. i'm just about to start sketching out some sketch turnarounds to show what goes on at the backs of these etc. but in general i'm quite happy with them, they just need to be a bit more co-ordinated and without so many bits looking tacked on ^^

this is the final main render for my 3D bathroom project!

yup its a weird environment o.O; (its based on a place from my 'hikari' comic, however that comic hasn't yet been drawn! ^^;; )

its in an old, long-forgotten-about janitor's apartment that one of the characters crashes in when she wants to get away from it all....she's got her girly products in there, but hasn't yet bothered to clean the place lol! XD

- its a low-poly, game-style environment - 3037 polys for the entire room
- made in 3Ds max 8
- models are pretty much all normal mapped, and there's an ambient occlusion pass baked into the diffuse colour
- lights are all standard max lights and rendering was done with the default scanline renderer ^_^

grunge mapping was done with the help of free textures from here --> http://www.cgtextures.com/ and using the photoshop brushes of redheadstock on DA, which are truly brilliant!

i'm going to upload a progress pic for this main view (ouch! there's some bad sketches on there! >.< ), and i'm taking a couple of detail renders which i'll upload too at some point o.O;

apart from the fact that compiling the renders and info for this project is going to take a while (about 3-4 colour renders, plus wireframes, plus grabbing out a couple of diffuse colour and spec maps for my portfolio, and making sure i've got all my information sorted) i'm quite happy to be finishing this project and moving on to more stylised, fun stuffs :3

i think the main failing of this project is that the actual environment i picked is very difficult to understand, because its part of a comic and not picked to be recognisable...which means that a lot of people will look at it and not really 'get' it, but i have learned *so much* producing this, so hopefully i can use this knowledge to its full advantage on my other projects!

just to think, i was having trouble modelling a teapot just a few short months ago! XD

aroundabout now, i am: accomplished

i haven't made a 3D blog post in a while! i was a little busy with the website project last week, so not much progress made on 3D stuff then, but this week i'm waiting for the client's input so i'm free to put some more time in on the ol bathroom project! (cut down from the big living-room/bathroom/small-kitchen project because i don't want to be working on this until next year lol! )

anyway its coming along, just a few textures to finish off, then lighting, then it'll all be done and dusted! XD after that i'm going to move on to some cartoony projects *yay!!* there'll be the rapunzel steampunk tower to improve and finish off, which is sort of cartoonily stylised, then i've got another project lined up which i'm going to keep under wraps for now because i'd like some time to calmly compile some development work - then i'll tell all! (it's going to be fun tho XD it's going to be linked to a high-poly, high-res, high-detail 3D picture i'm going to start work on, which may be ready in time for the art book next year if they'll let me use it ^^....but the portfolio version is going to be low-poly and hopefully game worthy ^^)

anywhoo back to today's subject - bathroom products! i've been having a little fun with the products that appear in my project - most of the text that's on them gets shrunk down too small to see, so i can write any old crap there! here are some of them, modelling nicely on the bathroom floor (BTW the lighting's poo cos there ain't any yet)



they are
- power clean! bathroom cleaner and disinfectant - 'our powerful cleaner and disinfectant will powerfully clean and disinfect your stuff!'
- kablamm! thick bleach - 99p!
- paws brand liquid soap aww... ^_^
- angel - beautifully smooth grooming creme for angelic styles

and i think my personal fav
- you're the boss hand cream! - super soft hand cream for the woman in charge XD



i find this stuff way too funny! (seriously i just chuckled to myself as i was uploading it - its worse than laughing at my own jokes ^^;; ) if i ever did get to make game content, i'd be putting in stupid random things all over the place lol!

luckily with these things if they were in a game you'd really not be close enough to them to read them - the labels are just there to give an impression that they are proper products (i would've just nabbed photos of real products but i don't really want to include any copyrighted material in my project, especially as you wouldn't be able to do that in a game...unless they were real product placements o.O; )

the only product that's left now is the shower gel....now what should i call that...? *ponders*
